Abstract: The Forgiving Personality Scale (FP) was developed in two studies (N = 928). In the first (n = 392), items were selected for subsequent versions using corrected item-total correlations and initial estimates of validity (self-labeling items). Also, final FP items were factored yielding an interpretable five-factor structure supportive of construct validity. A second study (n = 536) addressed several related issues: (a) test-retest correlations calculated at eight and 12-week intervals suggested temporal stability; (b) comparisons to measures of trait forgiveness and related constructs indicated the concurrent validity of FP interpretations; and (c) comparisons with personality, emotion and interpersonal traits yielded a meaningful pattern of correlations, further suggesting the construct validity of FP scores.
