Abstract: The present study assessed the reliability and factor structure of the Cassidy and Lynn (1989) multi-faceted achievement motivation scale (CLAMS). Participants (N = 747) completed the CLAMS, along with several other scales, as a part of a personality questionnaire mass-testing session. Internal consistency was acceptable at both the sub-scale and composite levels. A confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the seven-factor model fit poorly. Implications of the present study's findings relative to the further development and use of the CLAMS are discussed.
