Abstract: This exploratory study using a case-study design attempted to evaluate the degree of similarity between two widely-used instruments (the Self Directed Search and NEO-PI-R) in vocational counseling. The results indicated a correspondence between the Social and Artistic Holland types with the Openness, Extraversions, and Agreeableness factors of the NEOPI. A correspondence was also found between the Openness and Investigative domains. Implications of the results for career counselors are outlined.
