Abstract: This study investigated the theoretical assumption that a propensity to worry is influenced by irrational belief schemas. College students (N = 153) completed the Worry Domains Questionnaire and the Irrational Beliefs Inventory. Worry and irrational beliefs were positively, significantly correlated. Regression analyses indicated that worry was most associated with specific irrational beliefs reflecting the importance of being loved and approved of by everyone, the past as a determinant of present behavior, and becoming very upset when things are not as one wants them to be. The results are discussed in the context of Kelly and Miller's (1999) cognitive model of worry. Limitations of the present study and suggestions for future research are posited.
