Abstract: Osipow and Spokane's (1987) interactional model of stress was tested using data gathered on upper-level educational professionals (N = 102). The interactional model of stress proposes that coping resources moderate the relationship between stress and strain. Five hierarchical regressions were performed on interpersonal strain, physical strain, psychological strain, vocational strain, and job satisfaction with four hierarchical blocks consisting of demographic variables, stress, coping, and the stress-coping interaction. The current study found support for Osipow's interactional model for all four measures of strain and for job satisfaction. Additionally, the specific occupational pattern of stress, strain and satisfaction indicated that this sample of upper-level educational professionals, despite commonly held beliefs to the contrary, was not particularly stressed.
